Abdullahi Yusuf). UK as permanent member of the UN Security Council to
submit a motion to indict Somali warlords.

4.
Participants
4.1.
The majority

5.
What appeal
does this demo have to the Somalis?
Both issues do appeal to the Somalis. This is because:
5.1.
Despite the
formation of a transitional national federal government, we must make sure
that the warlord made accountable the misery they inflicted to the people.
This should not happen. Everyone should be accountable of their part of the
misery.
5.2.
Since mid
1990s, Ethiopia has been undermining all effort of the re-installation of
the Somali state by arming the allied warlords and by breaking the arms
embargo. Although, Ethiopia is not the only country involved in Somali
affairs, it is definitely the most prominently in pursuing the most violent
military.
6.
What can the
demo inspire?
This demonstration and its follow ups
are expected to motivate the formation of a formal organisation: An
organisation which could pursue actively the indictment of Somali warlords.
Probable name of such organisation: Somali Warlords Indictment Group (SWIG).
Some of the activity of SWIG:
6.1.
Writing
proposal for the indictment of Somali warlords
6.2.
Listing Somali
warlords’ profiles and crimes they committed
6.3.
Collecting
warlords’ criminal evidence (i.e. videos, audio, text, testimonial, etc.)
7.
Other effect
which may lead?
Once the warlords shunned from vital
source and discredited, it may change the case of Somalia that was dragging
for one decade.
7.1.
It may push the
international community (particularly the UN) to be directly involve in the
Somali case, but this time the Somalis themselves to guide the case
7.2.
It may change
the shape of Somali case by bringing forward the genuine representatives of
the people. This will solve the representation problem.
8.
Summary:
Warlords thrive in war economy. His
interest lies in the fear and violence. Once out of the way, warlords will
oblivion from the decision making of the Somali people. With warlord’s
influence diminished so Ethiopia’s domination will disappear. |
